Skogen
Skogen, or “forest”, in Swedish, was woven with mulberry silk, merino wool, and cashmere. The weft yarn was first dyed with fresh marigolds from my garden until a golden color was achieved, and then dipped several times in an indigo vat for a variety of greens ranging from pine to moss; the colors one commonly finds in a Swedish forest. Supplemental stripes of patterns were added in silver to complement the crisp coolness of the piece. This shawl has a heavier drape, with the merino wool and cashmere adding a cozy warmth fitting for the upcoming winter months. The fringes have been finished in the signature Hemma Textiles fashion, in a combination of twists and braids. This shawl is a one-of-a-kind piece.
