This small statement rug is woven using a traditional Swedish technique named “ripsmatta”, or “rep weave” in English. Ripsmatta rugs are conventionally woven with two colors, but my contemporary interpretation includes 20 colors that come together to form abstract geometric motifs. The thick yarn used in the weft creates a ribbed structure in the rug, which adds a sturdy weight and has a pleasant feel to walk over.
